Traditionally, on the second day of the celebration of the University's Patron August Count Cieszkowski Days, doctoral promotions and the presentation of doctoral and postdoctoral diplomas were held. Individuals of particular merit to the Poznań University of Life Sciences were also awarded.
Every year in November the PULS academic community and invited guests gather to celebrate an extremely important and momentous event - the PULS Patron's Day. The event refers to the origins and roots of the Poznan University of Life Sciences - to the Halina Agricultural College, established on November 21, 1870, and the Patron of the Poznan University of Life Sciences, August Count Cieszkowski.
The importance of the ceremony, in addition to emphasizing tradition and history - qualities that are extremely important in the formation of academic community spirit - is also to point out the effort that accompanies the acquisition and broadening of knowledge and science, and thus the conferral of more degrees. "This is a celebration of the entire university community, which is growing with new postdoctoral and doctoral degrees. It is extremely important that dedication to scientific work and the acquisition of more degrees and titles be accompanied by enthusiasm and joy in the discovery of science, as well as satisfaction derived from the successes achieved. The work of an academic teacher is not just about mastering a certain body of knowledge or collecting and communicating the results of others' research, but about teaching methods of acquiring knowledge and training the ability to conduct independent scientific and teaching work," - PULS Rector Prof. Krzysztof Szoszkiewicz said in his welcoming speech.
A special place in the ceremony on November 18, 2022 was given to those whose work and commitment were recognized and awarded with decorations: Crosses of Merit, Medals for Long Service and Medals of the Commission of National Education, as well as Medals of "Merit to the Poznań University of Life Sciences" and Academia Rerum Rusticarum Posnaniensis. Deputy Governor of Wielkopolska Aneta Niestrawska, who presented the medals on behalf of Wielkopolska Governor Michal Zieliński, expressed her appreciation and congratulations to the decorated employees.
The further part of the ceremony, led by PULS Prof. Edward Roszyk, comprised a presentation of postdoctoral and doctoral diplomas and congratulations to employees who received academic promotions in the academic year 2021/2022. The diplomas were presented by PULS Rector Prof. Krzysztof Szoszkiewicz, assisted by Prof. Roman Gornowicz, Vice-Rector for Human Resources and University Development, and the Deans of the respective Faculties. In the academic year 2021/2022 the Poznań University of Life Sciences promoted 45 PhD candidates and 11 people were awarded postdoctoral degrees. In addition, three people upgraded their qualifications at other universities, obtaining doctoral and postdoctoral degrees.
In accordance with academic tradition, the new doctoral candidates took the solemn oath of office, and this year's lecture entitled "The 'global' embryo. The development of embryology in light of technological advances" was delivered by Dr. Piotr Pawlak of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science.
